ShaZam Racing to replace Heights Half Marathon with Hollywood in the Heights
New event will host a 10K and 10K Relay (2 x 5K)
PEORIA, IL, February 11, 2015 – ShaZam Racing announced today that they will discontinue the Heights Half Marathon event that has typically been held in Peoria Heights, IL in the month of April the past several years. Having benefited the Heart of Illinois Special Recreation Association (HISRA), the Heights Half Marathon & Relay’s declining participation over the last couple years has contributed to ShaZam Racing making this difficult decision.
Staying true to their commitment to HISRA, ShaZam Racing has also announced a new event, set to be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 that will replace the Heights Half Marathon event.
This new event, Hollywood in the Heights, will host a 10K and 10K Relay (2 x 5K). Participants can expect the Hollywood theme to shine brightly through various aspects of this new event, including the opportunity to be photographed on a red carpet before the race, clapboard age group awards, and a Hollywood-themed costume contest with winners receiving gift certificates to Running Central.
The 10K course will be an out and back route (run through twice) taking place along Prospect road in Peoria Heights and beginning by heading north. The relay will have an exchange zone near the starting line where teams can pass their baton off before heading back out along the same route.
TNT’s Sports Bar & Grill is continuing their support as well and will partner with ShaZam Racing for the post-race party for Hollywood in the Heights. Participants can expect a full spread of food, and a couple drinks for registering for the event.
Overall and age group awards will be given to both 10K and 10K Relay participants.
